You can use 10lb mono if you don’t fish it around real heavy cover and if you’re not going to catch really large fish…maybe 4lbs and smaller might be ok. But ideally if you’re going to be a serious frog fisherman, you’ll need braid to land big fish and in heavy cover.
10 pound mono is all i gave and i can play a fish good in the weeds but i havebnt used my new frog yet. should i wait until i have braid or should i just use the mono?
i just started fishing baitcasting reels i have a quantum tour 7:1 burner on a all star select 7′ mh acton rod but was thinkin about switching to a diawa td l-t frog rod or a heavy action carrot stik whick would you perfer? and i live in louisville ky how was the fishing at kentucky lake?
I think casting accuracy is very important when frog fishing. I’ll do a video about this tomorrow on the lake and post it later this week. In general, I use sharp and short wrist jerks…maybe 3-4…then pause. You can also walk-the-dog which I’ll go over in the video. Good luck bud. hey James, thanks for the tips. I’m starting to frog fish this summer. Can you give me some advice on how to retrieve the frog? I can’t seem to trigger any strikes.
When you use that big magnum sharpie marker it’s quicker to take a razor blade and put a slice in the middle of it. That way you put your line in the sliced groove and run it up and down your line a couple thats all it takes to repaint your line and you wont have any unpainted spots.
Color selection: Frog 101 says:
dark days (clouds, low light) = dark colors. Sunny days, good light = bright colors like white. However I’ve personally found more success trying to match my frog to bait (local birds, beavers, snakes, bluegill, minnows, etc.). Thats what determines my color selection personally and I’ve found a lot of succses with that. I do catch night time frog fish w/ a black frog 95% of the time however.
Skirted frogs flare out when paused and that can triggers strikes a lot. However, Snag Proof’s new swimming leg frog has proven successful for me too. I used it to take 3rd at a Kentucky Lake Bassmaster event in ‘08 fishing in a crowd of frog thrower (all skirted frogs) so it can make a difference.
hey bro exactly what I needed..im trying to look at all things frog right now going to need one for the regionals on the delta..what brand braid would you recommend??

Hey there. Personally I’d get the Diawa over the carrot stik. Carrot stik is having some issues right now from what I heard at ICast.

Hey man. Thanks for the comment. I use Spiderwire…can’t go wrong with that stuff. Never broke it and it keeps its original color a lot longer.
